Pravaler

.

Pravaler is a company affiliated with Itaú Bank which aims to facilitate access to education through student financing services.

The company has a portfolio of products geared towards education. One of them is the Balcão da Escola, a platform that assists staff at educational institutions in offering financing. This case shows how the first version of this product was developed.

The Challenge

.

Pravaler is one of the most widely used student financing options in Brazil. It can be reached through the website or at the educational institution (IE) itself. However, the company's database indicated that there is low uptake when offered by the IEs. Given this scenario, the challenge of this case is to increase the uptake of the Pravaler financing when offered at the institutions' counter.

Design Process

.

The design process followed the guidelines of the Triple Diamond. In the beginning, field research was conducted to understand the reasons for low engagement. After that, the data was analyzed and conclusions were drawn. Then, the team gathered to collaboratively devise solutions.

Discovery

.

As main objectives in the discovery process, we had:

1 - Understand the reasons for the low adherence to the financing when offered at the desks of the IEs.

2 - Know the users who provide service at the desks of the IEs.

The tools that were used to achieve the objectives were:

The use of research tools generated artifacts to assist the design team in making more assertive decisions. The artifacts were personas and journeys, seen below:

After building the design artifacts and better understanding the scenario where the problem occurs, the following opportunities were detected:

1 - Difficulties of the attendants in explaining how Pravaler financing works.

2 - High dropout rate due to the process of acquiring the financing being lengthy.

Given the opportunities, a co-creation workshop was held with the product team to generate solution ideas for the following problem: How to assist the attendants of the IEs in offering the Pravaler financing and provide the client with a faster journey?

The ideas generated were voted on, and then low-fidelity prototypes were developed.

These prototypes were validated through a usability test with 10 attendants from some educational institutions.

Development

.

The final interface was developed using the company's design system. The system was designed to be accessed through web browsers, as it is easily accessible to attendants and is low-cost.

Rollout

.

The developed product was called Balcão da Escola, and it was launched at the beginning of July 2022 in IEs throughout Brazil. In the first month of platform operation, the following results were achieved:

1 - The average lead time (financing time) was reduced from 5 to 3 days.

2 - The number of financing agreements in the month increased from 800 to 2000.

With these results, one of the main objectives was achieved, which was to provide a faster contracting journey. In the first months of launch, it was still not possible to reach the number of 2000 financing agreements; however, we increased from the mark of 800 to 1600.

Launching this MVP was essential for rapid learning, and a new, improved version is planned to be made available soon. In this way, we will continue to assist Pravaler in facilitating access to education.

Thank you.
